Winter break project

Over the summer I was on the hunt for a classic trench coat. I purchased a long, camel trench off Ebay on the cheap, completely head over heels with the silk fox-hunt lining. Unfortunately, when it arrived I found it fit me more like an ex-murderer/grandpa than a fashionable 20-something. Both the trench coat and I were upset - we thought we were meant to be. As a consequence, the trenchcoat spent the past semester tucked away in my closet as I tried to decide what I should do with it. 

The solution came when, earlier this week, my cape from Romwe arrived. I was - and continue to be - thrilled about my cape and have been procrastinating by playing dress-up all week. However - I did come to realize that, despite its outer beauty, it lacked personality. So, what did we come up with? 

That's right - transferring the lining of my trench coat onto the lining of my cape - Done!
The inner lining of the cape was originally an purple-ish brown color that didn't mesh all that well.
I think that replacing the lining with some richer tones has really brought out the camel color of the cape.

So far I've just separated the lining of the trenchcoat from the trench itself, but when I get home I can 

suture the new lining in. I am so excited! I think that the final product is going to look great. 

Yay for ingenuity! 

On a different note, I've been trouncing around 

Romwe/Asos/BCBG/VenaCava and these styles are driving me wild...

Hearty BCBG tote? Dibs.

Vena Cava dress on Gilt.com... Mmm

Alright welll I guess I should probably start packing for my flight that 

leaves in six hours. Haven't slept much so I apologize for the loopiness.

What dreams are made of

 If someone were to ask me today, "Rebecca, if you could only choose one, what item would you wear for the rest of your life?" It would be this map dress. It's as if someone took all of the whimsical adventures of my past, present, and future life and rolled them up into one piece of fabric. A pure delight.

These collections from Carven and Sass & Bide are what dreams are made of. Incredible.

Like a flower through the snow

I love love love the idea of happy spring blues and vibrant florals 

lending life to a dull winter wardrobe: it is the clothing equivalent to optimism. 

 I would love to pair that great floral top with my new cape! (pics coming SO soon...)

Cape Crazy

In anticipation of my new cape, I raided lookbook.nu for some capespiration... 

I think the whole point of wearing a cape is to be a bit mysterious and dark -
you never know what's under there. Black tights and tough-girl boots are must. I cannot wait.

What I'm Thinking for Winter

I know, I know - I haven't posted in forever. It's been a busy year and I hope that i can ease my way back into the swing of things here at the Tog Blog. So I'd like to start anew by sharing some of my thoughts and inspirations for the winter months. Here's what I've conjured up so far:

The Feeling: Tough, grungy details on a classic, well-tailored canvas

The Elements: Camel capes, skinny slacks, cashmere, short black boots, asymmetrical hemlines, translucent layers, hidden shine

The Inspiration:

(how I feel when I'm wearing my big, stupid hat)

Jason Wu... I die.

And of course, I love this stingray necklace. 

I can't get enough of the  juxaposition between grungy details and on a demure,
well-tailored canvas. You'll see me attempting to pull off these looks all winter.
Now, I think we're off to a pretty good start here. What inspires you this winter?
